Sundowner™ apple season begins at the end of May but because of its strong acid taste we like to store this apple until October and November before we begin to market it.

Very distinctive in flavour and colour, Sundowner™ apples offer a delicious tart taste and a crisp slightly dry firm creamy-white flesh. The Sundowner is a conical shape and has a distinctive Red Stripe over a pale green flesh.

Sundowner™ apples pair well with fresh strawberries, pineapple, kiwifruit and mango for refreshing fruit salad. Good for eating out
of hand and cooking or baking, this grand apple makes tarts, pies, dumplings, cobblers, tortes and sauces. Sliced or cut apples stay white longer if put in a bowl of water with two tablespoons of lemon juice.

To store, keep apples in the coldest part of the refrigerator.
This apple freezes well.

Geography/History of Sundowner Apples: From Western Australia and at first known as Cripps Red, this apple was originally developed by J.E.L. Cripps of the Western Australian Department of Agriculture in the early 1980s. A cross between a Lady Williams and a Golden Delicious, Sundowner™ is a registered trademark of the Australian Apple and Pear Growers Association, Inc. Released in Australia in 1989 along with Pink Lady™ Sundowner apples are widely planted in Western Australia and the Goulbourn Valley.
